1pm... The subject of the 24h has been revealed : "Informatic and Internet, What happened in 30 years, the age of our high school ?"

What did Remi Belleau's students think in 2001?

Clever, creative and especially visionary, Remi Belleau’s students had many promising ideas according to the future of digital technologies.

The innovations to come for the beginning of the 21st century ?

The most mentioned element was the possibility of buying online and to be delivered ! Today this progress is clearly fixed in our habits and allows a very developed e-commerce all over the world (for the best or the worst).

Just think… A small tactil computer with a TV screen… Indeed! This student predicted the smartphone which has all theses functions and more !

The students also asked themselves about the possibility to transfer content fast. We think today of storage platforms that can allow us to watch video on demand, with Netflix since 2007 for example.

The principal dream was the possibility to use internet in our houses, each of them having their own IP address. It is impossible today to not perceive this, here, where the computer and internet is as much used in our houses that in our professional lives.

What did they have in mind ?!

Crazy ideas were also present with some hope on the development of scent diffusers. At the time, we knew the olfacom system or the sniffman one which didn’t change anything because this olfactory characteristic isn’t at all wanted today by the users. What a pity for those students who were dreaming the smell of car tires in their favorite video game.

Hazard visionary ?

Our students were already seeing the signs of dangers that are still relevant such as immoral traffics or the copyrights flouted especially with the recent appearance of ChatGPT. Theses dangers should be submit to some regulations and the information fluxes should be more controlled to avoid the derivatives, but this is really hard to apply.

Beyond this technical aspect, one of the most important danger mentioned is the impact of those technologies on human beings who could progressively stuck themselves in this virtual universe.
