Scarce natural resources can lead to conflicts and disagreements over their access, such as water in Ethiopia, which according to OXFAM, multinationals exported nearly 2 million dollars of products requiring a lot of water (meat, flowers, etc.) to the northern countries between 2021 and 2021, and all this to the detriment of local populations who have been living with historic droughts since 2017. This opportunism is considered a serious violation of fundamental rights and is favorable in countries where regulations are poorly applied.

The lack of one or more resources can have repercussions on the economy of a country. Indeed, the global oil crisis of 1973 caused high inflation and equally high unemployment. These events therefore changed the global economy. This is explained by the global dependence on oil.

The use of oil (fossil energy) also impacts society because the pollution that this energy causes is not negligible. It can be due to human errors such as oil spills in the seas/oceans when a boat sinks creating an oil spill like in the Gulf of Mexico in 2010. Oil refineries also emit a significant quantity of gases with environmental effects. greenhouse which strongly contributes to climate change.
